In their autobiography, Our World, published in 2016, Little Mix discuss their lives and
career up to and including the era of their third album Get Weird (2016).
The structure of Our World is clear and appealing.
The autobiography switches continually between each girl’s point of view,
providing a lucid insight into their thoughts, feelings and perspectives on
different aspects. These include The X
Factor, friendship, fashion tastes, personal and career-wise hopes for the
future, how their music inspires people, music video shoots, and their music
tastes. In the ‘Different Beat’ chapter, Pg221, each girl talks about what
songs of theirs means the most to them. For example, Perrie’s is ‘Love Me or
Leave Me’. Each chapter is titled with a song name of theirs that relates with
the chapter content. For instance, ‘About the Boy’ is about their
relationships.
It reveals an array of fascinating facts about
the girls from their childhood, personal lives, careers, and interests and
hobbies. My favourite fact is when Jesy was a child, she had a cameo in 2005’s Harry
Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Our World contains plenty of vibrant and colourful photos,
including tours, performances, charity work, and the girls as children.
The end of Our World has an interesting
addition of a Q&A with each girl so you know more about them. For example,
Perrie’s secret passion is arts and crafts, and Jesy’s is badminton. Each girl
also gives wonderful motivational advice for the reader at the end on overcoming
adversity and achieving dreams.
Our World is a superbly insightful read where you learn the
highs and lows of Little Mix’s career and personal lives. The lows include
devastating family deaths, insecurities, and the sudden shock of fame and winning
The X Factor. For instance, during an
X Factor photoshoot, Jade’s nose was
Photoshopped to look thinner, distressing her. Find out the band’s many
highlights, including their elation from performing ‘Black Magic’ at the 2016
Brits, and the relish touring and performing brings them. Leigh-Anne’s career
high spot is selling out a 2014 arena tour and singing ‘Little Me’ there.
I couldn't recommend reading this amazing autobiography enough!
